The autonomic nervous system has two main branches: sympathetic (activation) and parasympathetic (recovery). Health is the ability to move fluently between them, not to stay stuck in either one.
Modern life biases most people sympathetic — always on, always scanning. Over time, that changes the brain, the gut, sleep quality, and how pain feels.
Recovery is trainable. Breath, movement, chiropractic, sleep, and specific brainstem inputs all shift autonomic tone. The goal isn't to eliminate stress — it's to build the capacity to leave it.
